I wanted to say THANKS in a fun way to our local firemen for their prompt response last Friday night (when my neighbor slept through his very loud smoke alarm). So I googled “Firemen’s Favorite Cookie Recipe” — and here is what came up:
The combination of dark chocolate chips and toffee (I used Heath bar fragments instead, couldn’t locate any English toffee) is wonderful. I made double the recipe!!!
I had not baked in years, not made cookies since forever. So it was a project, and a learning experience. Which is to say — they wound up pretty flat, and very big – 5+ inches across, most of them. I looked at them, and thought: “They’re not perfect, maybe I should just throw them out, and start again. ???”
To put that in perspective, doubling the recipe should have provided 60 cookies — I had about 40. Which means that the calories showing on the recipe (221) is probably closer, for these, to 400 per cookie. Only for very active guys, obviously.
Well, I let go of my desire for visual perfection after tasting them – could not give them away without sampling the recipe. And they tasted GREAT!
I got to the Firehouse this morning just as the big truck pulled back into the garage, and left them with two young men who looked delighted to be thanked, and to relieve me of the heavy bag of close to 3 dozen cookies!
I assured them the contents were safe, saying with a laugh: “I had one for breakfast!” It’s been a good day!
