Wedding FAQ's

Q. Are you licensed?
A. Yes, I am an ordained and licensed minister. The ordination ceremony actually took place in the Cathedral of St. John the Divine in New York back in 1997.

Q. Do you charge a fee to attend a meeting with us?
A. Absolutely not — I am available to meet with you whenever convenient, I even buy my own coffee!

Q. If we want a non-denominational or even non-religious wedding, will you do that?
A. Yes, definitely. My job is to assist with creating a ceremony that reflects you and your relationship. I have no agenda apart from that. And frankly, your religious or spiritual background is none of my business. It's no one's business but yours!

Q. We were raised Catholic. Are you able to work with us?
A. Well, I can't do a mass, but about 75% of my clients come from Catholic backgrounds. Together, we create a script that is unique and interesting with as much (or as little) religious content as you wish.

Q. You say you are an interfaith minister. What does that mean?
A. I attended the interfaith New Seminary from 1995-97. And many of the weddings I've been part of have been truly interfaith. The most common is Jewish-Christian, but I have assisted with many other combinations as well. And I've married Atheists, I really don't have an agenda with regard to your religious or spiritual backgrounds.

Q. Do you do commitment ceremonies/civil unions?
A. Yes, I love to be part of same-sex ceremonies, and though we can't legally call them weddings in Illinois, that's what they are.

Q. Do you have any special requirements we should know about?
A. No. This wedding ceremony is all about you, not me. And I will do everything in my power to assist you in making it a very special day.

One last thing — I love this work, and it shows. The question guests most often ask at the end of a ceremony is: "Excuse me, minister, but are you a member of the family? You seem so involved in this!" Nice!
